Hyalubrix is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, viscoelastic solution made from hyaluronic acid sodium salt. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in various human tissues, including cartilage and joint fluid. It is an important component of synovial fluid that lends it its particular viscosity and elasticity. These characteristics are essential for the lubricating and shock-absorbing functions that the fluid in healthy joints performs in order to protect cartilage from mechanical damage.
A deficiency of hyaluronic acid and a decrease in synovial fluid viscosity typically occur due to traumatic and degenerative conditions, causing reduced joint function and pain. According to a number of clinical research studies and trials, an intra-articular hyaluronic acid injection restores the viscoelastic qualities of synovial fluid, resulting in pain relief and increased joint mobility.
Hyalubrix comes in two versions:
Both products are based on high molecular weight (> 1,500 kDa) hyaluronic acid sodium salt 1.5% synthesized by bacterial fermentation. The only difference between these products is the volume of the syringes.
According to clinical research, the effects may last for up to 6 months. The treatment course can be repeated as early as three months after the first injection, if necessary.
